Executive Office of Health and Human Services,  Web Work

It happened…

So it finally happened! We successfully moved over all the Executive Office of Health and Human Services web pages. Yesterday marked the day where all legacy pages, those that were on a content management system called “Percussion” have now been moved over to the new content management system we are currently operating on, Drupal! It surely wasn’t an easy task, so much communication and planning went into this task. I was actually responsible for making sure everyone stayed the course to get their pages mulled over correctly and on top of that, I had to determine even for our own Secretariat what information would be useful to migrate over. It was alot! But we got through it.

Overall, it came out nice, a few changes will be coming down the line, but for now, we went from this:

to this:

We migrated well over 22,000 pages throughout the past few months and years leading up to this point. the Department of Public Health had a big bulk of the information and pages to work with, but worked with all the agency heads well to make sure that all the information they wanted moved over, came over successfully! I had to work with some organizations to help them understand proper web techniques, how they could display most of their content, and also wording, the best use of proper terms to get the best possible views in search. So much more to detail that would probably never end, but just know that we now have a great new fresh feel in the Commonwealth.

The work isn’t done here though. There will be so much more to learn and implement as the wonderful folks at MassIT as creating new “page types” and working on the existing pages to make sure they adhere to everyone’s requests but with the best usage of space, technology, and practice!
