It’s been a year!
In the little time that I had come to this organization, I was really able to hit the ground running. I had learned the new system (Intranet) that they had implemented a few months prior in a relatively short amount of time and by doing so, was able to effectively communicate with personnel throughout the organization all levels. One of the most important tasks that I had been tasked with was pushing out a mobile version of our intranet to amplify the communication between departments, announcements, etc. I was able to find a way to push it out so that could be viewed by all as if you were on…

Intranet Compatibility Issue…
So we recently our whole intranet from one server to a few weeks ago and we came across an interesting issue where folks weren’t able to view a drop down menu. Now, it was working on chrome properly, but because most people use IE as their default, we had to figure out a way to make this happen and turns out, it was a compatibility issue. The way the intranet was set up seems like it was using old meta tags (IE7). So within compatibility mode, the browser is using IE 7 version when in actuality, the users have updated browsers which would be IE 11….so an interesting fix to…

Template Harm Reduction Final Report/Presentation
Back to working with who I call my “commission folks” on a template for a report presentation coming out at the end of March. Below were a few options that I presented to the team: These were some of the color options we were considering:
- Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Governor's Office, Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness, photography
Administration Highlight Plan to End Youth Homelessness
During an event at Framingham State University, Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito highlighted a comprehensive plan to end youth homelessness in the Commonwealth, announced funding to local providers and a new housing pilot to support homeless youth. I was on hand to take some photos use by both HHS offices and also the Governor’s media outlets. You can read more about it here: https://www.mass.gov/news/baker-polito-administration-highlight-plan-to-end-youth-homelessness And you can also view a few more photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mass_hhs/sets/72157706371411234

Intranet Migration
So, I’m here on a Friday night, past the regular 9 to 5 time frame awaiting my turn to do my testing of the intranet sites that I manage here at the Secretariat. I handle the EOHHS pages along with making changes for Tewksbury Hospital, the Department of Health, and also work along side MassHealth and the Department of Developmental Services, and the Department of Mental Health! I service all these agencies when requests come in to either change and create content. So the reason why we’re even moving these files over is because of a security issue with the way the current site is set up on the server…

Health and Human Services Home Page Discussion
I manage the content for Health and Human Services and from time to time, I hear from my colleagues from the Executive Office of Technology Services and Security on ways to improve our site. Today, I got a chance to sit down with Fiona who works on website improvement, content, best practices, etc. It’s always nice to speak with her because we get chat about new technology that is either happening in the Commonwealth but also outside of the Commonwealth. I also like speaking with her because it gives me time to give my feedback on the system, how the pages are set up, and also what I’ve been hearing…

Press Briefing – FY20 Budget
So, from time to time, I get called up by the Governor’s Office to help out with photography that will be displayed on their social media handles, along with imagery for press links, and going on the Governor’s Flickr account. Here’s a few photos from today’s press briefing:

Deadlinks
At the end of the year, saw the successful completion of migrating over 22,000 pages from all the various agencies, but now deadlinks linger, so working with the health and human services web services team, I’ve been working with them to handle these deadlinks. Not the funnest job, but has to be done!

Department of Public Health – Healthnet – Intranet
Today I worked on a small update for DPH which I do on a daily basis for those who have an intranet, but what I really wanted to detail here was the html code that I have to go into each and every single time to make a change to the site. We are currently working on changing it, but for now and as been the story these past few years, it’s been straight code! How fun. 🙂

Headshots
I got asked the other day to do a head shot and was asked for some examples of my work. When I when back to the folder where I have all head shots stored, I began to reflect on how many folks I’ve met while I’ve been here and worked with to have head shots done where they would be put on display on websites, presentations, publications, etc. I’ve done shots for Commissioners and Executive team members here at the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, but I’ve also been asked to take head shots for other Secretariats. Just thought I’d share!

Federal Shutdown – 2018 – Notice from the Executive Office of Health and Human Services – Update
Made a simple update to the website. This time when I get sent the task, I looked at the alert banner, and found that I could shorten it and have the whole message simply appear on the page it goes to. The first time we had to post the message, I had put the whole message in the banner, but this time around, a lot different and cleaner.
